..two months later
And we’re back after a fairly long rather uncommercial break. For the last two months or so I’ve been rather pressed for time, time well spent and some time not so well spent. I finished what I hope would be the last exams of my life, did loads of travelling around England and later on Sri Lanka and did a bunch of fun stuff in between. Here’s a list.
Saw the Goo Goo Dolls live in Bristol
Went to Oxford one last time
Saw Bon Jovi live in Southampton
African music festival in London
Byebye London, hello Colombo..forever!
Wathuragama, Galaha, Bentota, Negombo, Marawila
Job hunting
Lots and lots of seafood
Struggling with dissertation
Cut hair after 6 months
Bought a guitar
Still struggling with dissertation
Still job hunting
I would write some details but I really am lazy. Demn shame. I also just tried to write that in the form of a poem, good thing I gave up after something about climbing rocks in Galaha.
Hopefully will get back to some writing before we also get banned. Until them I’m going to Matale. Where I might put the kaythale.

Welcome back, we’ve been waiting with bated breath

where’s Wathuragama? does it even exist?
Galaha is down south right?
catch anymore musicals before u left london?
Comment by savi3 — July 26, 2006 @ 7:01 pm
rasti - Oh for your lung capacity..
savi3 - It does exist! though i didn’t know of it till i went there heh. It’s in Gampaha district in the middle of nowhere, but there was some nice bungalow which served fairly decent food. Did lots of cycling.
Galaha is up country, just off Peradeniya, again, middle of nowhere, but stayed at a nice estate within touching distance of James Taylor’s ghost. Lots of Kali shrines, scary.
I did catch an excellent open air performance of Midsummer Night’s dream at Regent’s park. It was absolutely lovely for an early summer night. In a moment of weakness I watched Les Mis again, and missed out on Mamma Mia as a result

ah thanks for reminding me to catch the regent’s park open air theatre before the summer’s out. i could hv sworn Galaha was down south, must be some place else that sounds similar.
so hv u got a job in lanka or still looking?

oh yay!! he is alive!! thought u were either dead or had eloped or something…
welcome back!! and its super awesome cool that u bought a guitar…very hot,I must say,
let us know when you are in Colombo, like the rest of us boring ppl…:p
Comment by Savi — July 28, 2006 @ 8:24 am
savi3- am sort of looking though I have a couple of ok offers. I’ve bought some time till september so let’s see what happens.
savi- If I had eloped i surely would have blogged about it, though can’t say the same if I had kicked the perennial bucket. Unfortunately my guitar playing skills are about as good as my eloping skills, and so far i’m blaming a slightly untuned guitar for that. But let’s see after a practice session this weekend.

sometimes i wish i could go back to being a student again just so i could have those long summer vacations, screw the job… but then i remember the paycheck which makes it kinda worthwhile.. but what a slog just for a bit of money

hey nice to see u back…so u in SL for good now? Dude that estate sounds nice, love those spooky bungalows. Actually spent my early years on an estate and then used to go up every holiday…some of em are most definitely haunted!
P.S. you mentioned in an earlier comment ur grandma lives on Anderson road…which Anderson road, wellawate or the one off Dickmans road?
Comment by childof25 — July 28, 2006 @ 11:42 pm
The Anderson rd off dickmans rd. I live next door
Comment by Anush — July 30, 2006 @ 6:38 am
Anush is right, it’s off Dickmans. The Galaha bungalow was quite cool, but the proper spooky place was in Wathuragama. Now this is 100% factual, actually wait I’ll put a post about this bitbit later.
p.s. yep am in SL for good! Awesome as ever to be back. Going to spend the afternoon between barefoot jazz, SSC for the match, and maybe Buba for sundown.
Comment by ddm — July 30, 2006 @ 7:43 am
That itinerary sounds an excellent way to pass the time! Yeah Anush’s house is in front of mine..so yes that was probably us you saw playing cricket down the road in our heyday…
Comment by childof25 — July 31, 2006 @ 5:57 pm
child - adey yeah must have been you lot. didn’t you play a bit for school also? i have this vague memory of you opening batting when mylvagnam was captain and the Lalith was at the helm. Or maybe that was for blue house? Confusion reigns.
Comment by ddm — August 1, 2006 @ 5:06 am
Childof25: Anush’s house IS? Really? Which house is yours?
Comment by Anush — August 1, 2006 @ 10:27 am
Anush - would be the white walled house in front, no.4 to be exact…this is assuming my assumption about who you are is right?
ddm - hmmm…so my cover is blown!
…just out of curiousity how did that happen? haha ‘the Lalith’just thinking bout that joker makes me laugh…so u were a CIS batta while I was there?
your memory does serve me right, I played for quite a few years…kept for a couple and gave that up when i started opening. Actually Altaf used to be my opening partner, mylvaganam (who incidently was in yellow, i was in blue) used to come one down…ahh the memories..
Comment by childof25 — August 1, 2006 @ 4:22 pm
I think the cover went through flickr or something, I can’t really remember. I used to play the odd U19 game at that time, properly started playing the next year. Altaf was in my batch, used to bat quite well if i remember right. Did you wear a headband at times? I probably bowled at you in nets and house games! small world.
Comment by ddm — August 1, 2006 @ 5:40 pm
well il be a monkey’s uncle, you were in Altafs class?! hardly a batta
…the bugger was a very good bat actually…quite enjoyed opening with him…hes bro plays league in LA…and incidently run into one of your classmates on occassion there as well, Fazlu
I wore glasses so had sort of a restraining band kinda thing..thats probably what ur thinking off…trying to creak my brain out to place u…what house were u in, and did u ever play in a big match?
Comment by childof25 — August 1, 2006 @ 7:58 pm
all 3 of u live down the same road??? ain’t that weird. don’t think i ever heard of Andersen Road off Dickman’s Rd the only Andersen Road i know is in Dehiwala..
Anush i know where u live now
Comment by savi3 — August 2, 2006 @ 1:46 pm
ah no no i don’t live there, but aachchi used to live there so i used to frequent the place as a batta.
Child - I played for red, opened the bowling most times. Never played big match but played when we won the U19 trophy and i think U17 and U15 in the respective years. Nothing like the lalith no? one time he told a bugger to loft the ball along the ground. And of course the classic selfare and unfish.
Comment by ddm — August 2, 2006 @ 5:14 pm
haha…yeah the lalith was a good laugh, watch out for the mudding (or something along those lines)…bugger used to disappear for a bit whenever we practiced at NCC and come back reeking off booze! Did you have migara the fielding coach, one of the most sadistic coaches ive had…he used to give me close catching until I had a 100 caught on account that i used to keep
hmm…still cant place you but thats probably because of my faulty brain cells…I met a chappie in December who said he used to play with me in school but had zero memory of him…oh well
Comment by childof25 — August 2, 2006 @ 10:38 pm
Migara..the smiling assasin. Bugger looks like butter won’t melt in his mouth but then whacks the ball 50 times and says “hurts no?”. Hehe yeah Lalith said careful the mudding and many more things that i wish i remember.
Comment by ddm — August 3, 2006 @ 3:04 am
there was no cricket team as such as far as i can remember when i was in school.. a few boys played basketball and the rest were nerds. red house was always the best overall probably cos it had the highest concentration of nerds
